Pound Hill Community Event – 26th September 2009
November 26, 2009
A very successful day was had by the Pound Hill Community at an event held at St. Barnabas Church ably assisted
by members of the Christ Church congregation. We were blessed with a beautiful day with sunshine all the way. Several hundred people attended the event.
The event was attended by the Lady Mayoress of Crawley.
With a bouncy castle and slide, a fire engine and a stall for the local policeforce, along with a very successful BBQ a good day was had by all.
SUMMER BARBECUE
November 26, 2009
on Saturday, 15th August
On Saturday, 15th August, smoke billowed around Belloc Close as over thirty people gathered in the Manse garden for a barbecue. The morning was lacking in sunshine, but by 12.30 pm the sun appeared and there was a fresh breeze.
Our chefs, Alan Fenwick and Davin Glanville, did sterling work on the barbecues, and we all enjoyed chicken, sausage, beef burgers and salads. A mouth-watering selection of desserts followed, with a welcome cup of tea or coffee to finish.
Thanks to the Social Committee for organising it and to Bridget for providing the venue for us to enjoy an informal, friendly Saturday lunch.
BRUGES TRIP – June 2009
November 24, 2009
All travellers gathered in the Church car park at approx. 6.45 am for a 7 o’clock start. Everyone was in high spirits.
A smooth coach ride via M20 etc. saw us enter the Channel Tunnel terminus, ready for the crossing on ‘Le Shuttle’. For many of us this was a ‘first’ and exciting in itself.
Some 40 minutes later we were on French soil after the smoothest of train rides.
One and half hours later and there we were in the mediaeval town of Bruges. We split up into small groups and started wandering.
No distance at all found us right in the town centre with its canals, horse drawn carriages, famous swans (see front cover) and churches. A canal trip was a must for most of us and was both interesting and enjoyable.
Lunchtime loomed and our party found a nice little restaurant to satisfy the ‘inner man’.
A trip to the market, a few souvenirs of course, and a final ‘cuppa’ in a cosy café meant time to head back to the coach.
One last stop at the Hypermarket in Calais for an hour and it was ‘home James and don’t spare the horses’.
Another smooth ride on Le Shuttle and coach saw us arrive back at the Church car park at about 9.00 pm. A little weary, maybe, but happy to have experienced a most enjoyable day.
