Christmas at Christ Church

December 22, 2009

Our Christmas celebrations marking the birthof the Lord Jesus Christ has started with a well attended Joint Service at our sister church of Trinity in Ifield on Sunday 20th December.  The two congregations were treated to a pleasantly relaxed but meaningful presentation of worship to introduce the story of this unique event which will lead us on to the celebration of the birth itself on Christmas Day.

PIC_0016This Morning Worship was followed by the children’s Christingle Service in the afternoon which was equally well attended with some 46 children and adults taking part.  The service was enjoyed by all who attended and was followed by “goodies” to eat in the hall after the service.  The children enjoyed it and so did the adults.

Happily, despite the weather, the evening ended with a moving presentation of Lessons and Carols by Candlelight.  Seventy-one people came to celebrate with us the forthcoming birthday of our Lord.

Our celebrations will continue with our Services on Christmas Eve with Communion at 11.30 pm, a joint service with ourselves and Trinity at Christ Church, and separate services in the individual churches on Christmas morning.

Everyone one went home tired but happy and full of mince pies.

May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Christmas with Hope and Peace in the New Year.

VISIT TO HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT

December 1, 2009

On Tuesday, 10th November seventeen members from Christ Church travelled by train to London for a guided tour to see the Houses of Parliament, which had been kindly arranged by Dawn Powell.  The tour lasted about an-hour -and-half and we were shown round both Houses and heard all about the history of Parliament.  After the tour, our MP Laura Moffatt had kindly pre-booked a room for us to have our lunch where she was also able to join us for a question and answer session. It was a very interesting and enjoyable day, so many thanks to Dawn for organising it!
